like beet root thickened roots
body with narrow base, otherwise clavate, 3.5–4 cm (1.3–1.5 in)

outspread, sometimes with some additional, bristles like, to 2 cm (0.7 in) long spines

± 1.6 cm (0.6 in), ascending, the lower 1–1.5 cm (0.4–0.6 in) long,
distant, glassy white, with dark tip
flowers funnel shaped, yellowish to brownish, with reddish midvein
