named after Count F. M. Knuth of Knuthenborg in Bandholm
globular to cylindrical, about 6 cm (2.3 in) high, 7 cm (2.7 in) Ø, dark leaf green, clumping
ribs seperated in tubercles
areoles wooly
14–20 radial spines, to 8 mm long, arcuated to the body, glassy, with yellowish base
central spine, to 1 cm (0.4 in) long, with a bright to dark tip
flowers 2–3 cm (0.7–1.2 in) long, usually multiple on the crown, white, with purple-pink midvein
fruits green to red-brown
seeds dark brown to black
