appear in early spring; fruits are dry, with few seeds
new taxanomy uses the name of the genus Stenocactus (K. Schumann) A. Berger (1929)

ribs about 30, thin, wavy
spines first golden yellow, hooped, later straw yellow
radial spines1.2 cm (0.4 in) long, spreaded, glassy white
4 central spines, to 6 cm (2.3 in) long, 0.2 cm (0.07 in)
Ø, oblate, the sidewise are shorter and thinner,
the lowermost is mostly longer
flowers whiteish, outside with dark midvein
